Smoky Black Tea Seasoning

If you love deep, herby, smoky flavors, then this multi purpose Smoky Black Tea Seasoning will most definitely satisfy your tastebuds. It’s made using our Lapsang Souchong Loose Leaf Tea and can be used to flavor meats, fish and vegetables, either as a dry rub or wet marinade prior to cooking or as a dry condiment at the table.

Lapsang souchong tea has a dark, earthy, smoky flavor profile. Unsurprisingly from the description of its flavor profile, it has a very unique taste, yet it has a silky smooth finish and goes well with both sweet and savory ingredients – so it’s far from being just a tea.

Whether you’re a BBQ prepping pro or you like to add unusual, umami flavors to your meals, then here’s how we made it…

3 tbsp Nature Restore Lapsang Souchong Tea
1 tsp organic garlic powder
1 tsp organic oregano leaf
1 tsp organic ground black pepper
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp chili powder
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp organic thyme

Add all ingredients to a mortar and pestle and grind into a powder.
Store for later use as a rub, or create a marinade by adding olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey.

The beauty of this seasoning is that you can experiment with the amounts and combinations of herbs and spices, as well as the Lapsang Souchong itself. You can even experiment with the herbs – don’t just use what we’ve used (although it is super tasty). Mix up your own concoction and enjoy your very own secret recipe.

All your BBQ buddies and dinner guests will love it, and you’ll be the talk of the town. Don’t forget to share your foodie creations with us @nature.restore – it’s up to you whether or not you share your twist on our recipe!
