Antioxidant Trail Mix
Ready for a trail mix remix?
What do you think of when you hear "trail mix"? If you go straight to that salty/sweet taste of m&ms and peanuts you're not alone! Yes, there are specialty health goods stores that have bins and bins of trail mix options, but it always feels like theres SOMETHING you would do different on your own right?
Take me for example. I'm allergic to dairy (sorry milk chocolate & yogurt chips 😢), try to limit my added sugar intake, and have a niece that cant even be near peanuts or pecans. That cuts out most of the options at the local grocery store! The problem is, I love a good trail mix. Both on the trail or at my desk for a little nutritious pick-me-up. As an alternative, I started making my own!
Here's my antioxidant-packed, super satisfying trail mix recipe. The antioxidant star here are the small but mighty dried bilberries! Although no larger than a black peppercorn, they pack a powerful punch of antioxidants. More so than their relative the common blueberry! Feel free to mix up the proportions to your preference. If in doubt go with the even mix, otherwise just eyeball it and get creative! Some additional add-ins could be coconut flakes, dark chocolate chips, goji berries, or any of your other favorites!
¼ cup almonds
¼ cup walnuts
¼ cup pumpkin seeds
¼ cup Nature Restore Dried Bilberries
¼ cup raisins or dried cranberries
Combine all ingredients in a container and mix.
That's it! Super simple and so good! To learn more about Bilberries and why they work so so well in this antioxidant trail mix click here!
